The rain held off on the weekend as Elkford celebrated Winter Festival with their annual Wilderness Classic Sled Dog Derby.

There was a great turnout on Saturday for the races, but according to the Elkford Chamber of Commerce, the numbers were down on Sunday.

Mushers came from all over B.C., Alberta, Yukon and the U.S.A. to compete. In total, 50 teams took part in the racing.

Dave Johnson, who came in first in the four dog open, and the six dog open, came all the way from Tagish, Yukon.

Even though there were a lot of teams who had competed in previous years, there were mushers from groups like the Streeper Kennels, from Fort Nelson, B.C., who raced for the first time this year.
