Beyond the Batholith, is an innovative series of abstract portraits, celebrating the creative achievements of 12 Kootenay women, all writers, by a talented Kaslo artist, Arin Fay. This is a unique and revealing glimpse of our literary artists, through the eyes of a visual artist.
To fully embrace the spirit of the project Fay developed a tour to bring the portraits and authors to Columbia Basin communities. Securing grants from the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance and the Columbia Basin Trust she has worked with local libraries, through the Kootenay Library Federation, to realize this ambitious project.
The portraits will be hanging at the Sparwood Public Library and the Elkford Public Library during the month of April. You can view the portraits at the Sparwood Public Library from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m, except Tuesday and Thursday when the library is open until 8 p.m. The Elkford Public Library is also open six days a week: Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 to 5, Thursday and Friday 11 to 6 and Saturday noon to 5.
A literary event featuring Kootenay novelist, K. Linda Kivi, will be held on Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the Sparwood Public Library. K. Linda will be discussing her most recent novel Letter from Lubumbashi, which is the story of a Congolese refugee named Joseph and his suburban life in Canada. You will also have a chance to meet Arin Fay at this event.
Fay was born and raised in Regina. She received her formal education at Thompson Rivers, Banff Centre, UBC, Simon Fraser and the Athabasca University. She is continuously developing her art in her studio near Kaslo.
