Manitoba singer/songwriter Kayla Luky will be taking the stage at the Clubhouse in Fernie.

A Manitoba singer and songwriter who played on the stage of Canadian Idol is bringing her music to the Clubhouse at the Fernie golf course.

“I guess I got my 15 seconds of fame for playing Black Horse and the Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall on Canadian Idol,” said 22-year-old Kayla Luky.

Luky is touring on the release of her fourth album The Time It Takes.

She describes her style as a combination of singer/songwriter and alternative country.

“To me alt-country is like the punk music of country. It’s more underground and less mainstream,” said Luky.

She has been compared to Neko Case, Blue Rodeo, Emmylou Harris and Neil Young.

The songs on The Time It Takes was written over three years after Luky left Winnipeg for the rural town of Grandview.

“The songs are really influenced by the scenery and the lifestyle of a rural community,” said Luky. “Some of the songs were also based on the relationships I’ve had.”

The Time It Takes was recorded in Luky’s Grandview home over a week and a half.

Her favourite songs on the album are Cowboys are Coming and the title track The Time It Takes.

Luky will be playing at the Clubhouse at the Fernie Golf and Country Club on May 24.

The show is free and the Clubhouse will be serving a $10 dinner menu.
