Warren Miller Entertainment is criss-crossing the country once again to bring their 65th film No Turning Back to ski and snowboard enthusiasts.

John Kapusty, Canadian tour manager with Warren Miller Canada, said the film “is unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”

The annual film tour is often heralded as the unofficial start to the ski and snowboard season, stirring excitement in the athletes who love to hit the slopes across Canada.

“We have 50 dates across Canada and it’s getting people excited about the upcoming snowriding season,” said Kapusty.

When speaking of Fernie, Kapusty said that the city is on Warren Miller’s list of places to target as he views Fernie as a stronghold in the ski and snowboard industry.

Having visited Fernie on the annual film tour previously, Kapusty noted the change in venue this year from the Community Centre to the Vogue Theatre.

“We had a show in Fernie last year at the Community Centre and this year we wanted to get a better picture. The film is so dramatic and it has a really great soundtrack to it so it was important to us to do it in the right theatre. It belongs in a theatre,” said Kapusty.

Kapusty highlights that the speed riding segment of the film is some of the best ski footage in the world.

“Speed riding,” said Kapusty, “is the latest way to ride snow. It combines the aspects of kiteboarding with paragliding and skiing. Sometimes these guys are on the ground and sometimes not. They don’t use poles because their arms are controlling their kite above them and they’re flying down mountains and touching down. Cliffs don’t bother them because they just fly right off the cliff and keep flying until they want to land again. It’s pretty wild. The speed riding segment in this film blew me away. It’s phenomenal.”

There will be an intermission halfway through the film during which prizes will be given away to attendees.

No Turning Back will be playing at the Vogue Theatre on Thursday, November 27 at 7 p.m. as well as an adult-only encore showing at 9 p.m. that will have beer and wine sales.
