100 Women Who Care hosts eighth Giving Event

Cycling Without Age and Elk Valley Suicide Task Force each received a $3,400 donation from 100 Women Who Care Fernie

Two more local non-profits have benefited from the Giving Event on June 6, hosted by 100 Women Who Care Fernie.

Cycling Without Age and Elk Valley Suicide Task Force, were each given $3,400, raised through individual donations from 100 Women.

Cycling Without Age offers free bike rides to seniors and persons with limited mobility, and plans to use the money to expand its fleet of trishaws. The Elk Valley Suicide Task force provides education and resources on mental health, and support for people suffering from mental illness. The recent donation will help to expand its programs.

100 Women Who Care Fernie has hosted eight giving events and raised over $73,000 for local groups since it started in December 2020. Each member suggests a local grassroots organization to nominate. Six of the choices are drawn from a hat and pitched at the Giving Event, and then attendees choose their top two choices. The two organizations with the most votes split the money raised by the group.

Local businesses who supported the Giving Event includes Castle on 1st, Fernie Catering Co., Lush Kootenay, Patti's Party Tent Rentals, SOAR Studios and Gabbi Escobar Film & Digital Photography.

The next Giving Event will take place on Nov. 7.
