Last year's Wapiti Festival

Last year’s Wapiti Music Fest in Fernie was beset by power problems, wonderful though it was.

This year that’s unlikely to happen, as the City of Fernie is in the process of bringing power to Annex Park. An electrical service line will be extended through the existing dike conduit and trenched to a kiosk to power future events in the Park. The trench will be dug from 10th St. to the Annex Bridge. The project is funded through the Resort Municipality Initiative and contributions from the Wapiti Music Festival. The festival contributed $35,000.

“Wapiti has always been passionate about giving back to Fernie, and we’re excited to support an infrastructure project that will benefit so many,” Aysah Haines, board director of the music fest said in a release. “without the support of four festival goers, this contribution would not have been possible. We are grateful for the continued enthusiasm and support from our attendees, which enables us to make contributions like this.”

Last year the festival’s generator broke down on Friday evening, causing a six hour delay to the live music.
