Elk Valley Thrift Shop gives $30,000 donation to health care

Store has given $30,000 to health care facilities in the Elk Valley for purchasing equipment

Elk Valley Thrift Shop Society in Sparwood has made a $30,000 donation to local health care facilities this year.

East Kootenay Foundation for Health accepted the donation on behalf of Elk Valley Hospital, Sparwood Health Centre and Elkford Health Centre. Each recipient will be given $10,000 and funds will go towards purchasing equipment.

Proceeds from the thrift shop are given to a variety of charities each year, including local schools, sports groups, student scholarships and non-profits. The store has donated $79,500 to various people and groups this year, with a goal of reaching $100,000. It has given $854,300 to community causes since it opened 11 years ago.
