Elkford Secondary School raised $1,550 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, through a series of community events organized by a team of dedicated staff, teachers, businesses and community volunteers.

Students and volunteers helped organize the annual cystic fibrosis walk, which has run for over a decade. Local businesses E360 Elkford and Bearspaw Contracting raised over $500 and the Lions Club donated a barbecue for the event. The school's coffee house event, featured musical performances, poetry readings and a silent auction.

Students also hosted a student council barbecue, and a chess tournament, which was won by Declan Sutherland.

The school surpassed its goal by $1,000 this year, and has already raised $10,000 for the cause over the past decade. All funds will go directly towards research and care for individuals with cystic fibrosis.

Teacher Will Percy said the students are already thinking of ways to increase community contributions to the cause in future years, and continue their school tradition.
