Fernie Secondary School Falcons Green Junior Girls volleyball team went undefeated at the Best of the West Championships in Kelowna on Oct. 4 and 5.

Fernie Falcons was among 50 provincial junior girl teams that faced off at the event and one of two AA sized schools competing against larger 4A schools in the Gold Bracket.

Fernie took the upper hand in each of its six games and won the tournament, becoming the first Kootenay team to come out on top at the Championships. Overall, they have remained undefeated this season, with additional successes in tournaments in Calgary and Lethbridge.

The team hits the road once again on Thanksgiving weekend to play Red Deer. On Oct. 18 and 19, Fernie Secondary School is hosting 12 teams from the Kootenays and Southern Alberta for a Junior Girls tournament.

There are 10 separate school volleyball teams travelling and competing this fall, and the Falcons Senior Girls Green team and the Junior Boys team also celebrated tournament wins last weekend.
