What an incredible day it was for 47 energetic grade nine and 12 English students from Fernie Secondary! On December 11, they set off on an exciting journey to Calgary, and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. Organized by Mr. Gulyas and Mrs. Germaine, this trip was designed to immerse our students in the vibrant world of the arts while exploring the thrills of the big city.

The day kicked off early, with students arriving bright and cheerful at 6 a.m., full of enthusiasm for the adventures ahead. Their first stop was the fabulous Stage West, where they enjoyed a delightful buffet lunch featuring a variety of delicious dishes. Students relished the opportunity to try new foods, turning lunchtime into a culinary adventure that tantalized their taste buds. Following lunch, they were captivated by the spirited musical "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: Rise of the Greatest Girl Groups," which showcased the power of performance, music and teamwork.

The fun didn’t stop there! Next up was Laser City, where the students dove into an action-packed laser tag tournament. The atmosphere was electric as they strategized, and ran and dodged their way through the fast-paced arena. Everybody had a chance to participate and unleash their competitive spirit, bringing out laughter and camaraderie that made the experience all the more memorable. It was thrilling to see every student fully engaged, bonding over the excitement of the game while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship.

Throughout the day, the students exhibited outstanding behaviour, demonstrating respect not only for their peers but also for the venues. Their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn were truly commendable, making the day a triumph that everyone will cherish. We hope this adventure will become an annual tradition for Fernie Secondary students, providing countless opportunities to experience the arts and the excitement of city life.

In the coming weeks, students will reflect on their unforgettable experiences by creating vibrant vlogs, expressive blogs, engaging commercials, and reflective essays. This assignment allows them to harness their creativity while articulating what the trip meant to them —an invaluable blend of fun and education.

A huge thank you goes out to all the parents and guardians who supported this incredible trip. Your encouragement and collaboration made this experience possible and highlighted the importance of community in enhancing students' educational journeys.

Overall, the Calgary trip was an overwhelming success, sparking hope that this adventure can continue for years to come. We can’t wait to see the creative projects our students will produce, capturing the joy, inspiration, and connection they experienced on this vibrant day of arts and adventure!
