The Fernie Ghostriders were tied for second place in the Eddie Mountain Division with Columbia Valley Rockies on Dec. 10, following two close games.
The Riders played Sicamous Eagles on Dec. 6, where they won 4-3, with only 30 seconds left in the third period. Coden Fournier scored a goal on a power play that brought the team to a victory, following goals from Eric Martin, Jack Lambert and Malachai North Peigan.
The team met with newly acquired and undefeated former Whitecourt Wolverine goalie Kael Sevenson, who kept the Eagles going strong as the Riders delivered a barrage of shots.
On Dec. 7, the Ghostriders played the reigning KIJHL and Mowat Cup Champion Revelstoke Grizzlies, narrowly losing 4-3 in a shootout. The Riders scored all their goals in the first period, with Ben Skarsen, Braeden Jack and Lucas Desjaralais landing some serious shots in the net.
Ghostrider goalie Nick Kunyk was bombarded with 20 shots in the third period, which resulted in two goals for the Grizzlies and pushed the game into over time and eventually led to a shootout.
The Ghostriders play Columbia Valley Rockies on Dec. 13 and Castlegar Rebels on Dec. 14. The Riders will host the Rebels for the annual Teddy Bear Toss and the team requests that spectators bring bears in plastic bags, or alternatively more practical bagged items like gloves, toques or scarves.
