12 firefighters and seven SAR members rescue a man and his dog, following a fall down a steep embankment.

A teenaged man is recovering after he and his dog took a fall down a steep embankment in the Elko area and were rescued by emergency services.

"When we assessed the scene, it was determined he’d fallen several hundred feet down the slope and was beyond our rope rescue capability,” said Elk Valley & South Country Rural Fire and Rescue Chief Michael Hockley. “Search and Rescue was dispatched out of Fernie and worked through the night until around 4am to get the patient and his dog up safely up the bank.”

A team of 12 firefighters and seven Search and Rescue members responded to the scene, accompanied by RCMP and B.C. Ambulance.

According to a RDEK press release issued Tuesday, Jun. 11, the young man sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital to be assessed and receive care.
