B.C Hydro is issuing an alert to residents of Sparwood about a planned power outage scheduled on Saturday, May 17.

B.C Hydro will be doing maintenance in Sparwood from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. that will impact houses along Sycamore Rd. Improvements will be made to the electrical system to reduce the frequency of unexpected outages caused by storms and equipment failure.

Residents are advised to turn off their electric heaters and major appliances, and unplug sensitive electronics to prevent damage from occurring. Those who depend on electric medical equipment or access doors, should have a plan in place to prepare for the outage.

For the first hour after the power comes back on, residents are encouraged to only plug in or turn on electronics and appliances that are essential in order to give the system time to stabilize without getting overloaded.

It is common for planned power outages to be cancelled without notice depending on weather conditions, and for safety and emergencies. To stay up-to-date on the status of the project visit www.bchydro.com or call 1-800-224-9376.

B.C Hydro recommends that residents keep their contact information up-to-date in their MyHydro account, so that contact is easier in the event of a change to the project schedule.
