Sparwood Trails Alliance is hosting its third annual Black Gold Poker Rally to fundraise for a new recreational trail.
Participants can complete a 5.5km run or walk, or a 10km bike ride on Saturday, May 24 starting from Mountain Shadows Campground. Proceeds from the event will go towards building a new 1.8km trail this year.
The Alliance will begin building Eh Line in June, a flowy downhill mountain bike track with wood features like wall rides and whale tails, and some steeper challenging sections with berms, rollers and jumps. The trail was designed and named by two youth advisory champions in conjunction with the Alliance. PacifiCan will be helping construct the trail, and Sparwood Chiropractic and Wellness, and Sparwood Remedy's RX will be helping with the event.
Another project will oversee the expansion of Open Fire trail to the CBC tower, to facilitate access to Eh Line.
Participants can collect wrist bands at check points along their running or biking route and trade them in at the campground for a poker hand, with a chance to win prizes. There will also be a raffle table, open from 9 a.m. to noon, with tickets sold in bundles of five for $5.
Pre-registration is $35 and runs until May 21. Registration on the day of is $40 and will take place between 9 and 9:45 a.m.
The Alliance raised just over $3,000 at last year and they are aiming to surpass this amount.
