Tourism Fernie was given the Professional Excellence Award in recognition of its leadership and innovation at the B.C Tourism Industry Conference on Mar. 6.
Tourism Fernie was nominated for the award alongside Tourism Kelowna and Sunshine Coast Tourism. The award is given to recipients with a track record of good leadership and professionalism, who strengthen the local and provincial tourism industries.
Hosted by Tourism Industry Association of B.C in Vancouver, the event gives 10 awards every year to tourism operators across the province.
Tourism Fernie's executive officer Jikke Gyorki was a finalist for Tourism Woman of the Year Award, along with Talaysay Camp of Talaysay Tours and Amy Thacker of Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association.
"What an incredible honour it was to see our organization and team be recognized," said Gyorki. "I was so nervous through the week of conference events, and when it happened, I was so grateful. Our team has worked so hard over the many years, and I was very happy to bring this back to Fernie to celebrate.
"This award was much more meaningful to me than the Tourism Women of the Year award, as even my own success in the industry is still based on our team," she added.
