Man shoots rifle in residential area

On the evening of September 1st, Elk Valley RCMP attended to a report of a Fernie resident who had discharged two shots from a firearm in a residential area.

On the evening of September 1st, Elk Valley RCMP attended to a report of a Fernie resident who had discharged two shots from a firearm in a residential area. After police arrived a third shot was fired after the individual had retreated back inside his home. Elk Valley RCMP along with the Police Service Dog Team from Cranbrook immediately contained the area and evacuated neighbours from their homes. Initial attempts to contact the individual were unsuccessful. After several hours, contact was made and the individual was convinced to exit his residence. The male was quickly taken into police custody without incident and a search of his home resulted in the seizure of four firearms. The thirty four year old now faces firearm related charges . He has been released by a Judicial Justice of The Peace and is scheduled to appear in court on October 4th, 2011 in Fernie, B.C.
