Crews have managed to hold a wildfire that's burned more than four football fields of land halfway between Golden and Invermere, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports.

The 2.65-hectare fire, which BCWS identified 10 kilometres east of Highway 95 and also 10 kilometres away from Kootenay National Park on Sunday, June 8, remained out of control in the Southeast Fire Centre until Tuesday afternoon, June 10.

"Suppression actions are being taken to limit the spread of this unwanted wildfire," states BCWS online, where it notes the cause of the fire is believed to be lightning.

In B.C., about 70 per cent of wildfires are started by lightning, according to provincial data from previous fire seasons.

With this wildfire currently being held by crews, it's "projected, based on fuel and weather conditions and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary," BCWS explains.

BCWS's latest update on the fire came after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with no evacuation alerts or orders posted.
