Elk Valley skiers and snowboarders will have access to some of the best mountain resorts around the world under a new partnership between Vail Resorts and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.

The companies last week announced RCR’s six ski resorts, including Fernie, would join the Epic Pass from the 2018-19 season.

The deal will give Fernie season pass holders 50 per cent off lift tickets at all Vail Resorts-owned mountain resorts and encourage Epic Pass holders to visit the Elk Valley.

Vail Resorts chief marketing officer Kirsten Lynch said the company was thrilled to welcome RCR.

“The family of ski resorts that make up RCR are some of the most sought after winter playgrounds for skiers and snowboarders around the world,” she said.

RCR vice president of marketing and sales, Tom Rosner, said RCR was pleased to partner with Vail Resorts and, along with Whistler Blackcomb, offer the best of Canadian skiing and snowboarding.

“The Epic Pass features the best resorts at the top ski destinations around the world,” he said.

“We look forward to start welcoming Epic Pass holders to all of our resorts next season.”

It comes as Fernie Alpine Resort prepares for a busy spring after recording more than 1000cm of snow this season.

RCR’s Matt Mosteller said Canadian interest was high, while bookings from the U.S. were “off the charts”.

“Given the incredible snowfall and amazing coverage we are getting on all the ski and travel sites, we will see a strong spring, as well so many great spring events that make those weekends even more awesome.”

FAR will close mid-April with “Fernival”, which features competitions and a free concert.
