Fernie Alpine Resort has been caught telling a porker on social media.

The resort had many people fooled when it shared photos of its new avalanche rescue animal “Poppy the Powder Pig” on Instagram on Easter Sunday, which also coincided with April Fool’s Day.

“Be on the lookout. Fernie Ski Patrol is testing out some new avalanche rescue animals today,” the post read.

“If you forget your beacon, he’ll save your bacon.”

The post had on Tuesday attracted over 1400 likes and 70 comments on Instagram, with many people falling for the prank. The pig in fact belonged to a family staying in the resort’s RV lot and the photo was staged by ski patrollers.

“CARPA – Canadian Avalanche Rescue Pig Association – has now begun,” joked FAR spokesman Matt Mosteller.
