Elk Valley Hospice and Twin Meadows Animal Rescue Society (TMARS) have each received $5,000 donations from local group, 100 Women Who Care Fernie (100WWC).
“With this incredible donation Elk Valley Hospice will be able to make much needed purchases for the dedicated Hospice room in the Elk Valley Hospital where many patients and families have been able to receive compassionate, quality care,” said president of Elk Valley Hospice, Elke Weber.
Elk Valley Hospice is a local charity that works to provide comfort, care and support during life’s most difficult challenges through decided volunteers.
For TMARS, the $5,000-boost came at a good time.
“This donation will make a huge impact for the animals of the Elk Valley community,” said Noelle Le Maitre of TMARS.
“Funds will be allocated to our annual ‘Kitten Season’ to help vet the kittens and cats we will rescue this summer and adopt out,” she said.
Funds raised by 100WWC are through their ‘Giving Events’, where members donate $100 per event and nominate an organization for the group to support. Following the first Giving Event of 2022, TMARS and Elk Valley Hospice were selected.
Since 100WWC’s first event in December 2020, members have collectively donated over $37,600 and supported nine local organizations.
The group meets only twice a year, with the next Giving Event in November 2022. To learn more, go to www.100wwcfernie.ca or email info@100wwcfernie.ca.
