Fernie musicians have been playing for some pretty big crowds internationally.
The local band Shred Kelly and the local musician Nell Smith both garnered crowds of thousands on tours in Europe and the U.S. in November.
Shred Kelly toured Europe opening for the band The Dead South from Nov. 10 to 27, hitting Germany, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.
Sage McBride, who does vocals and keyboard for the band, said their show in Prague brought a crowd of around 3,500 people.
“It’s been amazing,” she said while still on the tour prior to a show in Bremen, Germany.
“All of the shows have been really, really incredible, and really warm, really welcoming audiences.”
She said the shows brought crowds ranging from 1,000 to 3,500 people.
“It’s been kind of unreal, and just a dream to get to do this.”
Nell Smith of Fernie has also been performing for some big crowds.
Smith was on the Robots and Insects tour with The Flaming Lips and Particle Kid, which hit U.S. states Washington, Oregon and California from Nov. 13 to 21.
Smith said she performed with The Flaming Lips and did six shows in Spokane, Portland, Seattle, two nights in San Francisco and a final night in Los Angeles.
“It was really fun as we played at some really cool venues including the Warfield in San Francisco and The Wiltern in Los Angeles,” she said.
She estimated that most of the venues brought in about 2,500 people.
“In the dressing room at The Wiltern there was a door that all the bands who played there signed and David Bowie’s signature was on the door which was really cool,” Smith said.
