Alberta man killed in pedestrian collision near Elko

A 2nd man was injured in the collision; B.C. Highway Patrol is investigating

A 28-year-old Alberta man was killed and another man injured after being struck by a passing vehicle near the Highway 3 and Highway 93 junction near Elko on Jan. 17.

The two were on foot, associated with an unrelated motor vehicle collision, before being hit by the vehicle, according to police.

Elk Valley RCMP and BC Highway Patrol responded to the scene, along with the the Elko Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service, which provided life saving efforts.

A 24-year-old Alberta man was transported to a hospital facility with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

Police say the driver involved in the collision remained on scene and the incident is under investigation by the BC Highway Patrol in Cranbrook.

BC Highway Patrol is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, events leading up to the collision, or anyone who may have dashcam footage to contact BC Highway Patrol at 250-420-4244 and refer to file number 2024-168.
