A snowmobiler had to be rescued from near Line Creek last week after he slid down a hill into some trees and hurt his leg.

On Friday, May 13 Search and Rescue teams from Elkford and Sparwood were called to respond to an incident in the backcountry south of Line Creek, where the middle-aged man was injured.

Members from Elkford SAR along with an avalanche technician were flown into the area by helicopter to assess the man’s injuries and provide first aid, and the rope rescue team from Sparwood SAR was flown in soon afterwards to move him up the hill to the helicopter. He was then flown directly to the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie for medical care.

“We would like to thank the volunteers from both Search and Rescue teams for a job well done,” said Ed Ehrler, Sparwood Search and Rescue manager. “They worked together making use of all their skills to complete the rescue quickly and safely.

“Our personnel put countless hours into training and raising funds to buy the multitude of equipment needed to respond to emergencies in the Elk Valley backcountry, and situations like these demonstrate just how worthwhile an investment it is.”
