Registration for the Elkford Chamber of Commerce’s Volunteer of the Year Bursary Program is now open, offering a non-profit in Elkford the chance to receive a $1,000 boost.

“This program is a support to non-profit organizations in Elkford that need financial assistance to help complete community projects, engaging in community projects or helping to make Elkford a better place to live,” said Shawna Bryant, executive director of the Elkford Chamber of Commerce.

The Bursary Program is made possible by Bearspaw Contracting, which donates the funds via their Community First Society, a non profit charitable trust dedicated to assisting community projects within the Elk Valley.

Selecting the winner this year will be Dylan Forsythe, the recipient of Elkford’s 2020 Elkford Volunteer of the Year award.

Currently in its second year of operation, the Elkford Chamber of Commerce and Bearspaw Contracting launched the Bursary Program at the 2019 Business Awards.

Recipients of last year’s bursary were the Elkford Arts Council and Wapiti Ski Club, who were chosen by 2019’s Volunteer of the Year, Annette Sheppard.

“The Volunteer of the Year Bursary Program is a great way to gain financial assistance towards your community project or enhancing Elkford, and we want to help you get there,” said Bryant.

Registration for the bursary closes on Feb. 28. To apply, contact the chamber at elkfordchamber@gmail.com or 250-425-5725 to receive a registration form. Forms must be returned to the Elkford Chamber of Commerce by mail or email.
