The Southeast Fire Centre campfire ban has been lifted.
Effective 4 p.m. on Friday August 15, campfires will once again be permitted throughout the area, a Ministry of Forest Lands and Natural Resource Operations press release said.
The campfire ban is being lifted due to a cooler weather forecast and recent rain.
The Southeast Fire Centre is, however reminding locals and visitors to follow B.C. campfire regulations which include the campfire not being bigger than a half a metre wide and a half a metre high, flammable material being removed from the area, having access to a shovel or at least eight litres of water, not leaving the campfire unattended and allowing the ashes to cool before leaving the fire.
The existing open fire ban will remain in place, prohibiting open burning activities including the use of fireworks.
Anyone found violating the open fire ban might be issued a $345 ticket.
