Canfor invests in Elko sawmill

Canfor currently operates three sawmills throughout the Kootenays and the Elko mill is a significant contributor to the regional economy.

Canfor Corporation is continuing its commitment to upgrading the Elko sawmill with a capital investment of $10 million. The funds will go towards the installation of a wood biomass-fired energy system to improve efficiency at the mill.

“This capital project will improve cost and environmental efficiency at our Elko mill by utilizing sawmill residuals as an energy source in place of natural gas,” stated Canfor Corporation President and CEO Don Kayne. “Our fibre position in the Kootenays is strong, and this investment reflects our continued commitment to operating world-class facilities and making the most of our high-quality fibre in this region.”
