Ange Qualizza will be running for a councillor position in the City of Fernie's 2014 municipal election.

A Fernie local, a parent of two children and a sophisticated woman with a background in economics, Ange Qualizza decided to incorporate her background into municipal politics as she runs for the councilor position in the City of Fernie during the 2014 municipal elections.

Qualizza said she initially became interested in becoming a councilor after working on the city’s Official Community Plan.

“Having just finished working on the Official Community Plan with the city of Fernie, I realized first hand how much of an impact you can have at the municipal level of government and that inspired me to become a participant,” she said. “I hope that I can use my expertise to help make really informed decisions that impact our community.”

Qualizza said she is confident she would be able to contribute to municipal politics through her professional background in economics and her local knowledge of the City of Fernie. She also noted that she has, throughout the years, represented a lot of local organizations in Fernie.

A cross-country ski coach with the local Jack Rabbits Program and a Tae Kwon Do mentor, it is clear that Qualizza doesn’t shy away from volunteer work in the Elk Valley community.

Qualizza also noted that she is interested in furthering support of the City of Fernie’s business community.

“I think that the backbone of Fernie is small business,” she said. “I think that multiplier effect of the business community means that our schools are full and our hospitals stay open.”

She went on to say, “Creating a strong and vibrant business community has significant positive outcomes for our community.”
