A classical music concert is coming to Fernie in August.

The concert is titled ‘The Sounds of America: Through the string quartets of Florence Price and Antonin Dvorak’, and is being put on by the classical music chamber group La Cafamore, which regularly tours the Kootenays, according to a media release.

Featured musicians will be Kaito Takeda (violin), Maria Wang (cello), Carolyn Cameron (violin), Alexis More (viola).

“La Cafamore returns to the stage in string quartet format with a concert featuring the sounds of America through the string quartets of Florence Price and Antonin Dvorak,” reads the release.

The group is ‘excited’ to welcome Takeda to ‘round out the quartet.’

Cameron said “It has been many years since our group has done string quartets and I am really looking forward to it.”

Aside from Fernie, the concert will be taking place in Invermere, Creston, Nakusp and Trail.

“The (Columbia Kootneay Cultural Alliance) and Columbia Basin Trust have supported this group for many years. Their community-based grants allow us to visit a wide variety of places, including Fernie,” Cameron said.

“We come to Fernie pretty regularly because we love playing here.”

The concert will take place at the Mountainside Community Church on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m.

Tickets are going for $20, and will be available at the door through cash or via email transfer at lacafamore@gmail.com.
