The number of COVID-19 cases linked to the Fernie community cluster has remained unchanged in the latest update from Interior Health (IH).

The total number of cases has remained static at 97 with no new additions, while the number of cases still active in isolation has also stayed the same - at two.

95 cases linked to the cluster have been deemed recovered by IH.

The cluster was initially declared on Jan. 27, and fell away quickly from the initially reported 63 active cases.

According to IH, “clusters are declared when problematic COVID-19 transmission is occurring throughout a community.”

No businesses or locations were identified as transmission risks, with IH blaming informal social gatherings and events for the cluster.

The next update from IH is due on Friday, Feb. 19.
