A federal environmental assessment is being considered by the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency for the Crown Mountain Coking Coal Project. The agency is looking for public comment in regards to the project and whether an assessment is necessary.
The approximately $370 million Crown Mountain Coking Coal Project is an open-pit mine project that, should it move forward, will cover 2,558 hectares located approximately 12 kilometres from the District of Sparwood. The project will generate approximately 3.7 million tonnes of coal per year over a 16-year span.
