Brad Bowen is running for the first time as councillor in the District of Sparwood for the 2014 municipal election.

Brad Bowen will be running for a councillor position in the District of Sparwood and wants to focus on more transparency between council and citizens as well as fiscal responsibility.

Bowen has lived in the valley since 1970 and has raised two sons in Sparwood who continue to live there with four grandchildren amongst them.

A former frequent volunteer with minor ball hockey when raising his sons, Bowen decided to run for council because he decided he wanted to give back and get involved.

“My major goal will be to work for the citizens of Sparwood and keep them informed on the major issues more than they are right now,” said Bowen. “I think there are some major projects that nobody is really sure what’s going on with them,” he said, citing the Whiskey Jack resort as a delayed project that he wants to clarify the cost of to taxpayers.

“I want to focus on fiscal restraint,” added Bowen. “I think our reserves are significantly depleted. I think we have to watch and prioritize our projects going forward to make sure that we don’t get ourselves into a jam because you always need that reserve fund in case of emergencies.”

Bowen also worked in the mines for 36 years before moving into sales for a company in Sparwood.
