With plans to retire in the spring, District of Sparwood resident Cal McDougall said he feels he will have a lot of time to dedicate to the mayoral position.
McDougall has been part of the District of Sparwood community for three decades, serving as the mayor of the District for nine years; experience McDougall said is vital to leading a strong team in the upcoming years.
“I think we need some leadership and we need a good strong team, and I’d like to think that I could help provide that,” McDougall said, reflecting on his previous three terms serving the District of Sparwood. “In my mind, I think we had a pretty strong team at that point and that’s what I plan on bringing forward, is team play.”
The dedicated District of Sparwood resident said during his time in the Elk Valley he has lived in not only the District of Sparwood, but the Muncipality of Crowsnest Pass and the District of Elkford as well. And during his nine years as the District of Sparwood mayor, McDougall said he was able to build good, strong relationships with other communities in the Elk Valley.
“I’ve maintained that,” he noted. “I still have those connection, I still feel that that’s important and that I can bring that to the table.”
McDougall, who has also been a member of the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce for several years, said he does not have any burning issues in the 2014 municipal election, but rather hopes to keep the community moving in the direction it is currently moving.
“I just want to keep Sparwood moving on a positive foot.”
