Greenhills mine in Elkford will be shut down a week longer than planned after an electrical fire caused damage in the control room on Saturday, July 2.

The mine is already on a two-week scheduled maintenance shutdown, and the fire means it will be shut for an extra week.

“The incident happened in the electrical control room,” said Nic Milligan, Manager of Community and Governmental Affairs at Teck. “There was an electrical fire so it will be shut down a week longer than planned but there will be no impact to production, materially.

“Maintenance workers will still be carrying on with their jobs, as normal.”
