The District of Elkford, District of Sparwood, and the City of Fernie would like to remind residents that annual property tax notices, annual utilities, and homeowner grant applications (HOG) have been mailed out. Property taxes within the District of Elkford and the City of Fernie must be paid by July 2, 2020. Taxes in Sparwood are due on July 6.
Postmarks on mailed payments will not be considered the date of payment, and failure to file taxes on time can result in a 10 per cent late penalty.
Municipalities are accepting payments in various ways, including cash, debit, direct deposit, credit card or cheque. For information on which payment options are available in your municipality, check your 2020 property tax documents. Due to COVID-19, residents are encouraged to use electronic means to pay property taxes whenever possible.
Citizens are also reminded that HOGs must be submitted directly to the city or district, and reapplied for each year.
For more information on property taxes and HOGs, visit the City of Fernie, District of Sparwood, or District of Elkford websites.
