As of 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, the McDermid Creek fire was registered at a size of 288ha, and the Coal Creek FSR fire remains at a size of 548ha.

On August 23 it was reported that the McDermid Creek fire was registered at a size of 70ha, but it has since been upgraded to a Wildfire of Note.

Strong winds have contributed to the behaviour of both fires. Yesterday, winds caused the fires to become aggressive in nature and the BC Wildfire Service decided to pull crews off of both due to safety precautions.

Winds have since subsided and both crews and heavy equipment are back on scene reinforcing and establishing retainment lines.

The BC Wildfire Service expects the Coal Creek FSR fire to register as larger than 548ha once a new perimeter map becomes avaliable.

Active fires in the Elk Valley:

The Bull River fire remains active and is registered at a size of 760ha.

The South Line Creek fire remains active and at a size of 15ha.

The Coal Creek FSR fire remains active and at a size of 548ha.

The McDermid Creek fire remains active and at a size of 288ha.

The Bloom/Wickman wildfire, located approximately 21km southwest of Baynes Lake is registered at a size of 2,567ha.
