The District of Elkford is maintaining the State of Local Emergency declared June 20.
The Emergency Operation Centre will return to regular hours for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Should you require assistance during these hours please call 250.865.4000 and someone will direct your call. After hours please call 250.910.4004.
The Evacuation Alert remains in place. An Evacuation Alert means residents should remain alert to changing conditions and be prepared to leave immediately should an order be issued.
The Elk River continues to recede, but further rain forecasted over the next 36 hours may increase the flow. Residents are asked to stay away from the Elk River and Boivin Creek. Continued debris management will be conducted in Boivin Creek to ensure public safety; therefore, the Peace Park is closed until further notice.
The dike/trail system along the Elk River has received damage during the flood. Dike assessments are being conducted with repair work to commence shortly. Residents are asked to stay away from this area, as portions of the dike/trail are missing, and many spots have been impacted by undercutting.
Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) has been authorized for qualifying claimants, such as home owners, residential tenants, small business owners, farmers, charitable organizations and local government bodies, who were unable to obtain insurance to cover these disaster-related losses.
