A lot can change in a week.
After having to push their original Dec. 4 winter season opening day due to rainy and mild conditions, the Fernie Alpine Resort (FAR) has announced the new opening date for this Saturday, Dec. 11.
“The weather forecast is very promising for opening weekend, with significant accumulations possible throughout the weekend,” reads the FAR website.
The Weather Network has issued a special weather statement alerting about heavy snow expected on Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. Total accumulations are expected between 15 and 30 centimetres.
The Timber Chair, White Pass Chair, and Elk Chair will be open. Lifts will be running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ticket prices will be at half-day rates, and the ticket window will be open.
Lizard Creek Lodge will be operating as usual, but the Fernie Slope Side Lodge is scheduled to open on Dec. 18.
A full list of open terrain, services and restaurants is available on the FAR website.
