The Fernie Distillers have donated $800 to the Fernie Trails Alliance in a show of community support.

The funds were raised from the distillery’s ‘Community Spirit Program’, where 50 percent of sales of the spirit flights at the distillery go towards a rotating roster of community groups. The $800 to the FTA is from sales in July and August.

“We’ve given to other trail organizations, and the FTA is an important group in the community as far as tourism and trails,” said Fernie Distillers co-owner Andrew Hayden.

The FTA manages hundreds of km of trails around Fernie which are well-used in all seasons.

“It’s a benefit to our business – people go riding on the trails and then come spend money at the distillery. Supporting the FTA is very important.”

The FTA’s new executive director, Melanie Wrigglesworth said the funds would be going towards new signage for the FTA-managed trails, and trail maintenance around town.

“We definitely appreciate that the distillers have added us to their roster for amazing generosity to the community,” she said.
