The Fernie Ghostriders had a Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday to collect items to give back to the community.

The Ghostriders were playing against the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Dec. 10 at the Fernie Memorial Arena.

The teddies were tossed onto the ice from the crowd at 2:07 into the first period, after an early goal from Jack Karpyshyn.

The teddy bears go to the Fernie Salvation Army (FSA) for distribution.

Rick Robins, major with the FSA, said the Teddy Bear Toss is a great event about giving back to the community.

“It’s a lot of fun, it’s an exciting time, and it’s a way of people just giving something tangible back to the community.”

Robins was given a ‘Chaplain’ jersey from the Ghostriders before the start of the game, and sung the Canadian national anthem before the first face off.

Speaking about the Ghostriders and the event, he said “It’s just a great community spirit and a great organization that thinks about others in the community, and we just appreciate that.”

He said he grateful to be able to give back to the community and for the partnership between the Ghostriders and the FSA.
