The Fernie Golf Club recently hired Ben Rolph as their new assistant golf professional. Originally from the Island of Guernsey, Rolph brings years of experience coaching various sports into his new role with the Fernie Golf Club.

Holding a university degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education from the University of Chichester, Rolph is a European Golf Teacher’s Federation (EGTF) and a Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) coach. Within the last five years, he coached at three different golf courses including two on the Island of Guernsey, and the Wintergreen Golf and Country Club in Bragg Creek, Alberta.

In the winter, Rolph is a level three Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) instructor for Fernie Alpine Resort. Passionate about stimulating others both physically and mentally through athletics, he also has experience coaching many other sports including soccer, cricket, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and handball.

“Due to my strong sporting background and university degree I am able to understand the characteristics of other sports and compare and transfer the skills to use in golf,” said Rolph. “I am also very versatile with my teaching and can work with all types of physiology, injuries, age and psychological needs.”

On the path to making Fernie his permanent home, Rolph looks forward to a long and passionate career golfing alongside members and guests at the Fernie Golf Club. Throughout the summer, he will be teaching both private and group lessons for players of all ages, however only private lessons are currently available. Rolph will also be offering day clinics for every ability level, as well as packages on course instruction. When not coaching, Rolph will be available to inform guests about new equipment, as well as to help with golf club fittings.

Members or guests of the Fernie Golf Club looking to book a lesson with Rolph can either head into the Pro Shop, or give the club a call at 250-423-7773. Those looking for additional instructional information can visit his website at Rolphgolf.com.
