Fernie is on track to get a new Wendy’s by the end of the year.

That’s according to Mark Heath, superintendent of the build site next to the Tim Hortons off Hwy. 3.

“My goal is to have Wendy’s open for Christmas,” he said.

Heath works for the Calgary-based contracting company, Kalamoir, which is leading the project.

The total build will include four spaces, one of which will be Wendy’s, to be located next to Tim Hortons.

On the other end of the complex will be a Domino’s Pizza, according to Heath.

There will also be two other spaces, which they are in the process of leasing.

Work on the site began about four weeks before June 16.

“We’ve had to build the site up due to the town’s requirements for the flooding, so we had to import material,” Heath said.

“Now, we’ve got the footings going, and we’ll be pouring the foundation walls next week.”

“We’re going hard, trying to get it done. And want to get it while we got good weather.”
