The Fernie Trails Alliance (FTA) has a new executive director, with Melanie Wrigglesworth stepping into the role.

Best known as a former coach with the Fernie Alpine ski tieam, and recently as the chapter founder of Cycling Without Age Fernie, Wrigglesworth took on the mantle at the start of September to lead the local trail organization after previous executive director, Todd Penke stepped back.

“I’d like to take off from what Todd has already built,” said Wrigglesworth. “More fundraising, more corporate sponsorship and more funding. I’d like to be an engaged face of the FTA, out in the community.”

Following the FTA master plan, Wrigglesworth said she hoped to see more inclusivity on Fernie’s trails given her Cycling Without Age background.

“I’d like to see not just bikers and hikers having the trails (but) allow the trails for more users.”

Wrigglesworth said she was looking forward to her time with the FTA.

“I’m so excited I got this opportunity, and I’m really excited to see where we can take the FTA and all of our supporting organizations into the future.”
