The Elk Valley RCMP and the Fernie Salvation Army (FSA) partnered up over the weekend to collect items for the food bank.
On Sunday (Dec. 11) from about 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a couple of local RCMP officers were standing by at Save-On-Foods and Eldho’s Your Independent Grocer for ‘Operation Pack a PC’. Their patrol car trunks were wide open ready to collect donations for the FSA food bank.
A Sunday Facebook post from the FSA thanked the RCMP, and said that hundreds of pounds of food and over $100 was donated in a 2.5 hour span.
“Way to go Fernie. This food will go a long way in helping give hope to those in need in our community and surrounding area,” the post reads.
The Elk Valley RCMP also posted on Facebook about the food drive, and said, “Fernie, you are amazing!”
“You certainly blew us away, you packed two of our PC’s to the brim! Thank you to Save-On-Foods, Eldho’s Your Independent Grocer and the residents and visitors to the Elk Valley who supported The Salvation Army Fernie today!”
The Free Press spoke on Sunday with Const. Chris Spyker, who was collecting food at Save-On-Foods.
“We’re more than happy to give back to the community we live in,” he said.
