The courts weren’t possible without community support

Fernie’s volleyball courts are getting a lot of use this summer, a little over three months after they were completed near the Aquatic Centre.

‘They’re incredibly well-used,” said Fernie Volleyball Club president Dennis Staples. “Not only by the clubs, but with drop-ins they’re used all the time.”

“It’s been a very good addition to Fernie.”

Currently, all three courts are in use with a large Fernie Volleyball Club summer camp in full swing, with almost 90 girls and boys making use of the courts across the community.

The courts weren’t possible without community support, of which local company Parastone offered in-kind donation of workers and equipment to get the project up and running and fully funded to the tune of $115,000.

In total, Parastone donated $25,747.85 to that sum. “We couldn’t have done it without Parastone as our partner,” said Staples.

Parastone owner Simon Howse said it was a pleasure to help. “We enjoy building amenities that add to the community,” he said.

Parastone are working on a handful of other projects in that same vein, with works progressing on the Montane trails trailhead, where the company recently supported an upgrade to the car-park along with the Columbia Basin Trust, Tourism Fernie and the Coal Creek Heritage Society.
