The Fernie Chamber of Commerce has formally announced the finalists for the 2022 Business Excellence Awards, with a list of hundreds being whittled down to 30 nominees across ten award categories.

Local businesses and residents nominated almost 400 businesses and people for the 2022 awards, which will be held at the Rusty Edge on October 21 in what will be a return-to-form for the annual event following years of COVID-disruptions.

Community groups to make the final three nominees are the Elk Valley Suicide Task Force, the Fernie Women’s Resource Centre, and Twin Meadows Animal Rescue Society, while the three new businesses to make the cut are Bramasole, Drift and Sonder, and Miner’s Mud.

For people’s choice, Fernie Distillers make a return after winning last year, while OrganicTan and Stick & Stone are the other nominees.

Other categories with a public shortlist are business of the year, businessperson of the year, business innovation, outstanding customer service, environmental sustainability, employer of the year and community tourism awards. Another two awards; Citizen of the year, and chamber legacy awards are announced on the night.

Executive director of the Fernie Chamber, Brad Parsell, said the awards night was the chamber’s favourite event of the year.

“Despite the rising costs of doing business, chronic labour shortages, and other challenges thrown at us this past year – our business community continues to find innovative and creative ways to serve their customers. On behalf of the Fernie Chamber, I want to sincerely congratulate all nominees and finalists.”

Details on the event, and how to buy tickets, are available on the Fernie Chamber of Commerce website.
