Fire in Lizard Range stable with sufficiant supression

At approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday night, a lightning strike resulted in the ignition of a wildfire in ‘Steep Mother’ bowl in the Lizard Range, Fernie.

At approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday night, a lightning strike resulted in the ignition of a wildfire in ‘Steep Mother’ bowl in the Lizard Range, Fernie.

The BC Wildfire Service immediately dispatched a helicopter, which dumped several loads of water throughout the evening.

On Wednesday morning, two helicopters and a three-person RAP Attack (rappel) crew attended the fire and worked through the day.

The fire is currently classified as ‘Being Held’. With sufficient suppression action being taken that the fire is not likely to spread beyond existing or predetermined boundaries under the prevailing and forecasted conditions.

As of Thursday, August 10, the fire was 0.30 hectares in size.
