Backcountry Avalanche Workshops are a great primer for winter, offering participants the perfect opportunity to get thinking about the snow pack and avalanche conditions again.

This year, the workshop is a three-hour evening session led by CAC forecaster Penny Goddard. These workshops always cover a lot of ground and this year, some of the topics will include choosing terrain, recognizing avalanche characteristics, a look at new online programs from the CAC, and a review of new rescue techniques and equipment. No matter how you enjoy the backcountry—on foot or on a machine—you are sure to gain some valuable information.

“Winter is coming fast this year,” says Penny. “Backcountry Avalanche Workshops are a great opportunity to kick-start your preparations for the coming season. Just like we tune up our equipment for our first backcountry outings, these seminars will get your brain in tune.”

Backcountry Avalanche Workshops are free and open to anyone. No pre-registration is necessary. The CAC thanks Columbia Brewery for its continued support of this program.
