Downtown Fernie has a new offering, with Freshies Cafe now boasting a liquor license and a selection of wines, cocktails and tailored charcuterie boards in the afternoon.
Wine manager at Freshies, Sasha Picard said the idea behind offering wine was to offer people the opportunity to grab a drink before dinner.
“It’s a lovely opportunity for people to come in and kill some time,” she said, explaining that with a patio (for summer) and a niche in the market for after work and before dinner drinks, offering a selection of B.C. wines and locally-sourced produce as a before-dinner treat was a great was to grow their own business and support others downtown.
Picard explained that besides offering something a little different in town, they also hoped to support B.C. produce.
“Everything that we’re serving on the menu we’re offering through a local lens,” she said, with cheese from Le Grand Fromage, wines from around B.C., local and regional spirits and more.
The wine selection will be kept small, and rotated based on availability.
“There’s so many beautiful wines to offer, and this is a fun way to showcase BC wines,” said Picard, who has a hand in selecting the wines on offer, explaining the idea was to pick wines that weren’t available anywhere else in town.
Freshies offers its wine selection and charcuterie and cheese boards from 1pm until closing daily. They are open to 4pm from Sunday to Thursday, and until 7pm on Friday and Saturday.
