A skier needed to be rescued from a backcountry cabin at the weekend when his feet turned black from frostbite.
The RCMP received an emergency call from the skier at around 3 p.m. on Saturday and called Fernie Search and Rescue.
Rescuers were able to get assistance from Bighorn Helicopters and evacuated the 50-year-old skier from the Thunder Meadows Cabin above Fernie, where he was staying with friends.
The skier had suffered from exposure to the cold on the Friday and by Saturday his feet had swollen and toes had turned black.
Fernie Search and Rescue members Simon Piney and Dave Richards evacuated the man and took him to the Elk Valley Hospital where he was treated for frostbite.
