Mail is once again flowing to Jaffray after about a week and a half of letters and parcels to the community being re-directed to Fernie.

Jaffray’s post office, run out of the Jaffray Sports and Hardware building, had closed on Monday, March 7, leaving residents of the town with an about 50km drive on Hwy. 3 to pick up their mail, which was being re-routed to Fernie.

Chris Petryk, East Kootenay superintendent for Canada Post, confirmed on Friday (March 18) that an ‘alternate site’ for mail services had been set up on Thursday (March 17) on the other side of the Sports and Hardware store, and that they were back to regular hours.

He also confirmed that all the mail that was re-routed to Fernie between March 7 and 17 has been moved back to Jaffray.

“All the mail’s been moved back and we’re good to go,” he said.

Petryk thanked the community for their patience through the process of getting the mail services re-established.

“They’ve been absolutely patient and fantastic about it all.”

The Free Press was unable to confirm the reason for the initial closure, or when the old site for Jaffray mail services would be re-established.
